Chef Tanercan — 20 years of Mediterranean cooking

Over more than twenty years as a chef, Tanercan has built a style of his own, built around the deep flavours of the Mediterranean: tapas, mezze and dishes straight off the charcoal grill, always with fresh ingredients and a confident hand.

His cooking was noticed early on by food critic Johannes van Dam, who scored his Mediterranean kitchen 9.5 out of 10. At his own restaurant he stood out again: in 2017 Het Parool named his Flammkuchen the best in Amsterdam, chosen from hundreds of restaurants across the city.

For a group dinner he puts the menu together with you, tuning the dishes to the kind of evening you want, the number of guests and any dietary requirements at the table.

The process

How it works

From first enquiry to the evening itself — in three steps.

Step 01

Your enquiry

Tell us how many of you are coming, the date you have in mind and what the dinner is for. Use the quote form, or simply pick up the phone.

Step 02

Proposal & tasting

You get a proposal covering the space, the menu, the drinks format and a clear price per person. For larger dinners we can arrange a tasting with the chef.

Step 03

Your evening

We set up the space, welcome your guests and take care of the service. All you have to do is sit down at the table.

Frequently asked

Good to know

What is the minimum group size for a group dinner?

Private dining or a group dinner with a space of your own starts at 20 guests. Below 20 you are very welcome to book a table in our cafe-restaurant, but without a private space or a tailored package. Seated, the ship holds up to 370 guests spread across the spaces.

Can you cater for dietary requirements and allergies?

Yes. Vegetarian and vegan are always possible, and the chef works around allergies, gluten-free and halal. Mention it with your enquiry; we would like the final list of dietary requirements at least five working days before the dinner, so the kitchen can shop for it and prepare those dishes separately.

How do drinks work?

There are three usual formats, and you pick whichever suits you best:

Drink tokens — you buy a set number of tokens per guest up front, which keeps the budget capped. Open bar — a drinks package per person per hour, everything included, no surprises afterwards. Pay as poured — we count what was actually served at the end of the night and you pay only for that.

Can we bring our own music or our own DJ?

You can. De Buik has its own light and sound rig with a DJ booth, so your DJ can simply plug in. If you would rather have background music during dinner, we take care of that, and playing your own playlist is fine too. Let us know when you enquire and we will set the technical side up in advance.

How do our guests get here, and can they park?

The ship is moored at NDSM-Pier 1 in Amsterdam-Noord. The NDSM ferry leaves from behind Amsterdam Central Station — free, about fifteen minutes across the IJ — and docks a short walk from the ship. By car you come through the IJ tunnel or the Coen tunnel to the NDSM wharf, where there is paid parking on site. Taxis and coaches can drive right up to the quay.

Do we get the space entirely to ourselves?

Yes. The space you book is exclusively yours for the evening: your own entrance to it, your own service team and no other guests at the tables. For larger groups you can combine spaces — the terrace for the reception, Het Tussendek for dinner, for example. Hiring the whole ship is possible too; just ask for it in the quote.
